Dee was born and raised in a [once] small town in Indiana called Noblesville. She is a 1989 graduate of Noblesville High School and a 1993 graduate of Ball State University, majoring in telecommunications and journalism.
Her father was an Army veteran, as well as her grandfather. Her baby brother was a Special Forces Green Beret. Dee married the love of her life, Sean Heinz, on October 21, 2000. That’s when her role as a military spouse began. Sean recently retired as a Master Chief from the Navy in December 2019 after 25 years of faithful and honorable service. During his time of active duty, they were stationed in Dallas, TX, Patuxent River, MD, Whidbey Island, WA, Pensacola, FL and back again to Texas. They currently live in Rockwall, Texas, an eastern suburb of Dallas, with their 3 children; Lauren, Avery, and Logan.
Before she was married, she had a 10-year career as a professional sales representative in the telecommunications field. Once she and Sean started their family, they decided that her staying home with the kids would be best for their family to offer them stability throughout Sean’s many overseas deployments. She was a stay-at-home mom for over 13 years.
It was during this time that Dee read the book Lone Survivor and it forever changed her life. Even living in a military world, this book so rawly exposed the selfless sacrifices made by so few for so many. Besides the Bible, no other book has had this kind of impact on her life. She began actively giving back to those on the front lines by sending care packages to those currently deployed. Her little grassroots labor of love has now grown to over 100 members with fellow military-supporting friends from all across the country. They call their group the H.O.T. Patriots (Helping Our Troops). At the height of the GWOT, they were sending 4-5 large shipments a year that supported entire Teams of Special Forces or Special Operators. Now they are down to 1-2 shipments per year.
It was also during this chapter of her life that she took up quilting as a hobby and made over 30 memory photo quilts for Gold Star Families in honor of their fallen loved ones. She also donated many quilts to charities to help raise money for causes that supported military efforts.
As her children have grown and have become more and more independent, she decided it was time to rejoin the workforce. She went back to school in 2019 at Aveda Institute of Dallas and received her licensing as an esthetician. She also received her certification to become a cosmetic laser technician. Dee is now employed at Mélange Med Spa in Rockwall where she helps clients feel better about their appearance by improving cosmetic skin issues. She is a strong believer that it is NEVER too late and you are NEVER too old to reinvent yourself.
Dee is a devout follower of Christ and developing her relationship with the Lord is her primary focus in life. Her faith is the guiding force behind everything she does. She still enjoys quilting and crafts, but time is more limited for those endeavors these days. She believes a sense of humor will get you through the toughest situations and is the quickest way to build a friendship. She serves on the Missions Council at her church and is always looking for outlets to put her servant’s heart to use.
Dee is 50-something years old and feels like she is just getting started to accomplish all she has been called to do.
